The nice guidelines on acutely ill patients in hospital is well presented. The pathway is very clear and easy to understand. It should be printed and put up on a notice board in every ward which admits an ill patient. Thanks Mohan.

Nice guidelines. In the US the patients are evaluated in the ER would got to the ICU, intermediate care unit depending on the severity of illness. Many are admitted to observation unit and upon further evaluation would be admitted to regular hospital room or discharged if they do not meet admission criteria.
Patients with suspected infectious illness are obviously isolated one has to wear disposable gown, gloves & mask etc. Clostridium diff infections are becoming more prevalent and is hard to treat.

We have separate senior ER section and a senior medical unit ( ward) in larger hospitals .
